Epernay Nantucket Cheers to Charities

How to Benefit Others Through Cheers to Charities

February 4, 2020

Want a quick and easy way to feel good about yourself by donating to others?

Interested in making a difference on our island, no matter what size it may be?

Need an opportunity to show someone you care about them by supporting their cause?

Never underestimate the positive effect you can make on the lives of others, no matter how small it may be.  You never know when that one moment of financial assistance, educational learning opportunity, or act of kindness can change the trajectory of someone’s life to be in a better place than they once were.

The First Thursday Giving events at Épernay Wine & Spirits were designed to do just that, and more with the help of our powerful supporters.  Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie highlights a quick summary of our Cheers to Charities events for 2019 and the impact these organizations make on Nantucket.

HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW?
With the help of the community to sow, harvest, and reap the benefits!  The Nantucket Garden Festival, a celebration of island gardening, is produced by and supports our Nantucket Lighthouse School.  Special thanks to Winemaker Sean Larkin of LARKAN Wines who helped crush this fun event!

Epernay Nantucket Cheers to Charities Nantucket Book FestivalCELEBRATE READING, WRITING, AND LITERACY
We raised a toast to the Nantucket Book Festival with Camille Cox of Laurent-Perrier Champagne at this bubbly gathering of bookworms.  Their annual event honors national, regional and local authors and the rich culture of the written word, ideas, and the imagination, along with a variety of community events that promote Nantucket Island as an oasis and haven for the literary arts.

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT WITH MARIA MITCHELL ASSOCIATION
We had an out of this world experience with Cush Donelan, pouring his family’s Donelan Wines from California at this event that supported the Maria Mitchell Association.  This organization supports exploration, education, and enjoyment of Nantucket’s land, water, and skies beyond. Plus, their Executive Director Dave wears the coolest shirts!

MAKING A BIG DIFFERENCE ON A SMALL ISLAND
Cultivating, educating, and promoting environmentally responsible choices is the mission of Sustainable Nantucket.  We couldn’t agree more how important this is for our business and the island.  This event gathered wine drinkers who feel strongly about where the wines they drink come from and the environmental impact they make even before getting to us here on Nantucket

Epernay Nantucket Cheers to Charities Boston Med FlightFREQUENT FLYER STATUS YOU DON’T WANT

Boston Med Flight is not a trip you would want to take.  However, for many islanders, this is the best (and only option) available to save their life.  This tasting raised funds and awareness for this mobile medical response helicopter unit that provides emergency and inter-facility critical care air transport from Nantucket to Boston hospitals.

THE WHEELS GO ROUND AND ROUND
Looking for an active way to give back to our elders?  Nantucket Wheelers, an innovative wheelchair biking program, is designed to reconnect Nantucket’s elderly with the great outdoors.  We honored the work of this organization with delicious Fall French Selections from Frederick Wildman & Sons import wine portfolio.

PERMISSION TO COME ABOARD, MATEY!
No needs for sea legs at this benefit tasting for Egan Maritime Institute.  Sailors and landlubbers alike joined us to learn more about how this non-profit is dedicated to preserving the island’s seafaring past while inspiring the next generation of Nantucket with their maritime education program.  They even sponsor an annual 8th Grade Cardboard Boat Race!

FILLINEpernay Nantucket Cheers to Charities Inky SantaG SANTA’S SLEIGH WITH TOYS
We enjoyed a sip of Santa’s favorite wines and spread some holiday cheer at this benefit for Inky Santa’s Toy Drive.  Everyone brought toys, books, and games to help this organization support local families during the Christmas season who otherwise would not have presents under their tree.

Not a big drinker?  You are still most certainly invited to join us to help celebrate and give back to our community.  Enjoy in the fun, fellowship, and laughter by attending any of our Cheers to Charities event to show your support to one of your favorite organizations.  You can also choose to give a direct donation to the charity the night of the tasting in lieu of making an in-store purchase.   Together this year, we donated almost $2,000 to our esteemed Cheers to Charities recipients.

Be on the look-out for when we release our roster of Cheers to Charities 2020!
