Cheers to Charities: 2018 in Review

Want to know a quick + easy way to give back to the community of Nantucket without adding another committee meeting to your list?
Donating to the causes you care about shouldn’t be hard or stressful. Whether donating time, money or knowledge, the process should be engaging and exhilarating. This not only benefits the charities themselves, but it can also be deeply rewarding for you too! This is the concept behind our Cheers to Charities program that we initiated in 2018. We host a wine tasting, you make purchases of anything and anytime during the two-hour event, we donate 10% of sales (not just profits) to our host charity of choice for the month. Simple, sustainable and savvy!

DON’T PAS-CON THE ROSÉ
Who can pass on a refreshing bottle of rosé? Especially when it was to support our Inaugural Thursday “Épernay’s Cheers to Charities” Community tasting event in May. We enjoyed sips of our favorite summertime libations (think pink!) with Laura Fletcher, co-chair for PASCON’s, Palliative & Supportive Care of Nantucket, annual Dreamcatcher fundraising event.
KEEPING IT SUSTAINABLE WINE TASTING
We explored sustainable wines and sustainable gardens at our June First Thursday “Cheers to Charities” community tasting event. Katie Bailey of Folio Fine Wine Partners poured selections from family-owned and operated wineries around the globe while a portion of tasting sales benefited Sustainable Nantucket, represented by their Executive Director Amy Zelinski.
CHEERS TO CHARITIES: WINE AND WAG TASTING BENEFIT
We had a dog-gone good time at our First Thursday “Cheers to Charities” community tasting event in July. Sarah Mayo of Rathbone Wine Group featured quality wines from some of Australia’s most iconic wine regions, while a portion of sales during the tasting benefitted our furry friends at Nantucket Safe Harbor for Animals (NISHA), represented by Executive Director Jessica Sosebee.
BURGUNDY AND BEYOND CHARITY TASTING EVENT
We enjoyed a taste Champagne Henriot, then took a tour of the Côte d’Or with Bouchard Père & Fils, one of Burgundy’s oldest wine-merchant houses, along with fine wines from William Fêvre of Chablis, at our monthly “Cheers to Charities” wine tasting event in August. A portion of tasting sales benefited National Alliance of Mental Health (NAMI) – Nantucket, hosted by Kate Kling, founder of their Dragonfly fundraising event.
CALIFORNIA GEMS CHARITY TASTING EVENT
We tasted wines from Napa Valley grape growing industry pioneer Tuck Beckstoffer of Tuck Beckstoffer Estate Wines and Seventy Five Wine Company. A portion of tasting sales benefited Habitat for Humanity of Nantucket at this monthly “Cheers to Charities” wine tasting event in September, with Kristie Ferrantella as their Director of Development and Communications.
TERROIR + MERRIOR BENEFIT WINE TASTING
Justin Stone, Regional Ambassador for Taub Family Selection, tasted us on the true-terrior driven expressions these winemaking families have to offer. A portion of tasting sales benefited Nantucket Shellfish Association at this October “Cheers to Charities” wine tasting event, with Bruce Beni, Co-President of the organization.
COLD TURKEY WINE TASTING
Time to pick wines that pair best with the annual Turkey Plunge in November. We dove right in to this wine tasting worth gobbling about! A portion of tasting sales benefited the Nantucket Atheneum, our local library that enriches island life year round, at this monthly “Cheers to Charities” wine tasting event.
CHEERS TO CHARITIES: WINE TASTING SOCIAL BENEFIT
We got social this holiday season while giving bACK to our community. Non-perishable food item were collected to celebrate the season of giving at our December“Cheers to Charities” wine tasting event. A portion of tasting sales benefited the Nantucket Food Pantry of the Nantucket Interfaith Council, with Janis Carreiro, Director for Outreach Programs.
WINE AND WHALES CHEERS TO CHARITIES WINE TASTING
We had a Whale-of-a-Good-Time at our January“Cheers to Charities” wine tasting event. A portion of this event’s tasting sales benefited Marine Mammal Alliance Nantucket (MMAN), who works to educate the island about and encouraging participation in marine mammal conservation, and protecting our oceans, which was represented by their Director of Operations, Scott Leonard.
