Are you tired of all the buzz about pink wines? With so many new rosé wines available these days, it is no wonder it can be confusing when shopping in the rosé aisle. However, it doesn’t have to be that way for you. I recently discovered these delicious pink wines that get me excited about drinking rosé, not just in the summer, but all year long. How do I find the perfect rosé? First, I always start by looking for one that offers a sense of place where it is grown. Take Mary Taylor’s Silvain Miniot Rosé, one of the wines featured this month in our Cheers to Charities wine pack, and from the small appellation of Saint-Pourçain in Auvergne, France. The winemaker harnesses the influences of the local ‘terroir’ to create a well-balanced rosé wine of 100% Gamay. Imagine, enjoying a sip of this refreshing wine on your sun-filled porch with a piece of Charles Arnaud Comté cheese. ...Read More >
If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. Sadly, I lost my mother many years ago, much too young due to an accident. However, I still to this day try to do what would make her happy. Inviting my mother-in-law to visit Nantucket next month, bringing an unexpected coffee from Roast’d to my neighbor and friend next door to the wine store, taking a dear friend’s dog for a walk in the Nantucket State Forest when she is unable to do so— all are just some of the things I have done. These people are all moms in my life, even if they have no blood relation to me, and, like me, they are moms to four-legged furry creature that love them more than their own kith and kin sometimes. How do we celebrate these people in our lives on Mother’s Day, and keep our status as the favorite “child?” Personally, I want bubbles. Nothing says, “celebrate Mom” more than a...Read More >
If you weren’t on Nantucket, where else in the world would you like to be? Would it be a place similar to our Grey Isle, or would be somewhere completely opposite to it? You see, just like your favorite destination, no two places are exactly the same. Neither are two wines, even if they happen to be from the same region. There are so many variables (or intangibles) that make each wine unique and worth exploring. While you may be thinking that only Rosés from Côtes de Provence will do for you, I encourage you to think outside the ‘bottle’ at these soon-to-be summer sippers that will have you revolving around the Captain’s chair with authority and glee. SUN, SURF, SAND The well-known Antinori family of Tuscany has been making wines for generations and centuries it seems. While on a family holiday to Apulia, the heal of the boot of Italy, they discovered an area that had been making wine...Read More >
Like the credit card commercial that asks “What’s in your wallet?,” it is always interesting to know what is in someone else’s wine cellar. Will you find a rare, expensive Bordeaux that is being tucked away for a child’s 21st birthday? Is there plenty of pink on hand for that impromptu social gathering? What is the house white for easy-drinking, daily consumption? We recently asked the staff at Épernay Wine & Spirits to share their favorite fall selections and what wines they will be drinking over the next few weeks. Here is what they said… SUMMER SIPS CONTINUE When choosing a favorite wine for long-time Nantucket resident Josie, it was an easy choice to select Seresin Sauvignon Blanc from Malborough, New Zealand. Marlborough produces more than half of New Zealand’s total wine production. This area has been consistently acclaimed worldwide for its standard bearing Sauvignon Blanc. Josie is a native New Zealander who has now lived on Nantucket longer than...Read More >
