A Toast to Épernay’s Top Nine of 2019
January 22, 2020Trying to keep a dose of Nantucket in your system during these long winter months?
Waiting in anticipation for a new wave of delicious rosé offerings this spring?
Preparing your master plan on how to effectively make the most of your summertime already?
While none of these questions may come as a surprise to you now that we are halfway through January, it is always nice to reflect back on the highlights of the previous season to keep stoke the fires of your Nantucket spirit.
Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie gives us a quick recap of the year in review, featuring Épernay’s Top Nine of 2019! This list is made possible with the support of our local neighborhood, our friends in the community, and our wine partners from all stretches of the earth. For this we are thankful and appreciate each and every one of you!
COOKBOOK SIGNING WITH CHEF ERIN ZIRCHER
We loved hosting Chef Erin Zircher from CRU Oyster Bar not just once, but twice for an exclusive cookbook signing + wine pairing event!
We showcased a selection of French wines featured in her mouthwatering cook book, including Champagne Pol Roger, Christian Moreau Chablis, Alex Gambal Savigny-Les Beaune, and Domaines Ott* Rosé Bandol.
All this food and wine excitement made for oh-la-la exciting events!
COOPER RULES THE ROOST
Our official mascot and greeter Cooper honed many of his tricks this past summer.
He can give you his paw with left hand, shake with his right, lay down when prompted, and turn in a circle with a rounding motion of the hand.
He is happy to share his treats with any of his four-legged friends who come to pay a visit in the store.
On the list to learn for tricks this year are roll over and an extended stay!
LIMITED EDITION WINE FEST SCARF DEBUT
Nantucket Wine Fest is our most exciting weekend of the year.
We typically host at least ten different luminaries for unique wine experiences that allow you to intimately get to meet + greet with some of the most famous winemakers in the world.
You never can tell what the weather will be like that one weekend in mid-May.
Hence, we launched our limited release Nantucket Wine Fest Scarf in 2019 to commemorate the weekend anytime you would choose to don it!
CHARITABLE CAUSES
Giving back to our community is one of the greatest highlights we accomplish as our business continues to grow.
From our Cheers to Charities initiative held the first Thursday of the month, to donations for various fundraisers throughout the year, we are glad to be part of a bigger picture here on Nantucket.
The Nantucket Book Festival is one such charitable organization whose works can be seen year-round, including their “Work with Students” in our local schools, and sponsoring One Book, One Island over the winter, all while giving someone the gift to read.
WASIK’S CHUTNEY DIP
It’s getting cheesy around here!
This is the third year of our partnership working with and representing Wasik’s Cheese Shoppe, from Wellesley, MA, on island. Our friends (and yours) at Wasik’s work tirelessly to bring us the finest in your favorite staples of cheese.
This includes their world-famous Apricot Curry Chutney Dip. We can’t tell you here what some of the people call it when they come in-store to ask for it. Let’s just say, it must have been a fun party the night this spread got its nickname!
2ND ANNUAL NANTUCKET PINK WINE MIXER
Did you miss out on our annual rosé event this past summer?
Held at Island Kitchen, this was an opportunity to taste almost fifty different rosé selections from all over the world and you get to choose your favorite!
Wines were grouped by themes, which made it fun to be able to compare and contrast similar style wines together.
Never fear, you can always make plans to attend this year’s event to be held in mid-June.
SEAN LARKIN IN THE HOUSE
CAN you dig it? Canned wines were all the craze this summer.
Not only are they a cinch to open, they are also easily portable, convenient, tasty, and you don’t have to share if you don’t want to!
Winemaker Sean Larkin made a big impression on Nantucket with his top-quality line of canned wines, featuring rosé made from Pinot Noir from Carneros, crisp, dry Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley for the white, and luscious Merlot from Napa Valley for the red.
Be on the lookout for Sean to make another island appearance in the Spring!
THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE
The People have spoken this past Nantucket Stroll weekend and we were chosen!
Épernay Wine & Spirits was voted for best decorated ADULT TREE and best STORE FRONT WINDOW DISPLAY!
Many thanks to the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring this fun-filled community event.
We are proud to display both of our award-winning ribbons for this year’s contest. Can’t wait to show you what we have in-store come Daffodil Festival this spring!
DELIVERY, ANYONE?
We have heard every excuse in the book… I couldn’t make it across town before you closed, I wasn’t’ driving that way, You don’t have any parking (not true, by the way), I stopped somewhere else (and didn’t like their selection), I wanted to get there however something came up last minute…
You don’t need to make any excuses for us. We are right here for you, day in and day out, and we deliver not just for you, but also TO YOU!
We continue to make it easy-peasy for you to call or order online for delivery anywhere on island during normal business hours when we are open. How is that for making life simple for you?
May this new decade fill your heart with newfound purpose and meaning that will continue to enhance your life beyond your wildest dreams. Happy 2020 from Team Épernay!
