Think Outside Provence // Epernay Wines, Nantucket

Think Outside Provence

June 8, 2021

Are you tired of all the buzz about pink wines?

With so many new rosé wines available these days, it is no wonder it can be confusing when shopping in the rosé aisle.  However, it doesn’t have to be that way for you.  I recently discovered these delicious pink wines that get me excited about drinking rosé, not just in the summer, but all year long.

How do I find the perfect rosé?

Mary Tayloe Saint-Pourçain Rosé // Epernay Wines, NantucketFirst, I always start by looking for one that offers a sense of place where it is grown.  Take Mary Taylor’s Silvain Miniot Rosé, one of the wines featured this month in our Cheers to Charities wine pack, and from the small appellation of Saint-Pourçain in Auvergne, France.  The winemaker harnesses the influences of the local ‘terroir’ to create a well-balanced rosé wine of 100% Gamay.  Imagine, enjoying a sip of this refreshing wine on your sun-filled porch with a piece of Charles Arnaud Comté cheese.

Baron de Ley Rioja Rosado // Epernay Wines, NantucketAnother tip when searching for the perfect rosé is to choose one from another trusted wine region.  For instance, Baron de Ley Rioja Rosado, made from estate grown garnacha, comes from a winery with a proven record and long history of grape growing and winemaking.  Wash down a handful of tasty, salty La Marquesa Marcona Almonds with this Spanish beauty.

Hunt & Harvest Rosé of Pinot Noir // Epernay Wines, NantucketLastly, and let’s be honest, I want a pretty label.  What does this mean to me?  It’s a label that clearly communicates what is inside the bottle, or can in this case.  Let’s look at Hunt & Harvest Rosé of Pinot Noir.  I know this wine will be lighter based on the grape varietal, and therefore easily quaffable while boating this weekend.  Don’t forget a bag of Unique Pretzel “Splits” as a snack for your voyage.

These are just a few of my “Sommelier Secret” tips on how I find the perfect rosé. To discover more tips like these on how you, too, can pick the perfect rosé, I invite you to join me on Wednesday, June 16th, 5:30 pm at Épernay Wine & SpiritsYour personal invitation and more details on the event can be found here.  I look forward to clinking glasses with you in person at this in-person event soon.
