For a Dog-Gone Good Cause

The Nantucket Book Foundation is raising funds this Fall for its main event, the Nantucket Book Festival, by hosting a Literary Pets Photo Contest. You can donate to the cause (and our community) by voting for our very own our Literary Pet – COOPER! Cooper, named after the person that makes wine casks, “nose” a good book and perfect wine pairing. He is a Jack Russell/Maltese rescue and is just 11 months old. When not chewing on wine corks, he enjoys reading about wine and greeting customers at his job at the wine store. He is eager to have your support – thank you! VOTE FOR COOPER HERE! (Through October 15, 2018)

A Toast to Sea Inspired Libations

Coastal living invokes thoughts of bathing in the sun and times spent swimming in the surf of ocean water.  Standing in line for ice cream, staying up late to admire the stars and wearing a hat most days to shade from the sun are all part and parcel of summer on Nantucket.  However, not all coastal conditions are created equal and neither are the libations that come from them. Sea-shanty worthy drinks are an expression of their watery sources, no matter how far and distant in between.  Take a liquid adventure as you discover with Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie a handful of libations worthy of your next oceanic experience. AN ORGANIC OCEAN You are what you eat, or drink in this case, and wouldn’t it be nice to know that you are putting only the best ingredients in your body while also being eco-friendly. Aloha to OCEAN ORGANIC VODKA from the beautiful island of Maui in the Hawaiian Islands.  This...Read More >

Smooth Sailing RUMS

Salt air breezes, toes in the sand and sunshine on your face are all synonymous with island living on Nantucket.  No other spirit can make a cocktail that emulates life on an island quite like rum does. Rum, made from sugarcane or a molasses product, is the host ingredient to many of the classic tiki-bar cocktails. Think of a thirst quenching Lime Daiquiri, a fresh from your garden Mint Mojito, and a Nantucket Island favorite, Dark and Stormy.  Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie of Épernay Wine & Spirits gives us a brief history and tasty tour of rums you should be sipping with easy cocktail recipes for your next island themed gathering. Many of the rum brands we are familiar with today hail from the Caribbean and date back to centuries ago, where an abundance of sugar cane in the 17th century helped to make this spirit an international success. Sailing vessels carried exotic trade from the colonies and introduced Caribbean...Read More >

Sparkling Sensations

This weekend on Nantucket is a significant marker for many that summertime is soon expiring.  The Boston Pops on Nantucket concert is the largest and most popular summer event on the island, attracting thousands of music lovers to Jetties Beach for a night of spectacular entertainment – all to raise critical funds for our local Nantucket Cottage Hospital.  This year’s perfect pairing with the orchestra is RAIN – A Tribute to the Beatles, which is named in reference to the song as the B-Side of the “Paper Writer” single. They give audiences the experience of seeing Beatles’ songs live and recreating iconic Beatles moments.   Whether you are attending this musical revue, or have other plans for this iconic weekend, there is plenty to celebrate about life on Nantucket.  Now you, too, can experience a handful of sparkling sensations to toast the last few moments of summer with a little help from your friend Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie. THE BRITISH...Read More >
