Think Outside Provence

Are you tired of all the buzz about pink wines?  With so many new rosé wines available these days, it is no wonder it can be confusing when shopping in the rosé aisle.  However, it doesn’t have to be that way for you.  I recently discovered these delicious pink wines that get me excited about drinking rosé, not just in the summer, but all year long. How do I find the perfect rosé? First, I always start by looking for one that offers a sense of place where it is grown.  Take Mary Taylor’s Silvain Miniot Rosé, one of the wines featured this month in our Cheers to Charities wine pack, and from the small appellation of Saint-Pourçain in Auvergne, France.  The winemaker harnesses the influences of the local ‘terroir’ to create a well-balanced rosé wine of 100% Gamay.  Imagine, enjoying a sip of this refreshing wine on your sun-filled porch with a piece of Charles Arnaud Comté cheese.  ...Read More >

Endless Summer Shades of Rosé

You drink white wine year round, Sancerre in the summer and White Burgundy in the winter. Some people drink red wine all the time as well, Pinot Noir when it is warm outside and a hearty Cabernet Sauvignon when it is not. Why then do so many people think they have to give up Rosé after Labor Day? Refuse to stop drinking pink if that is what you really want! Not only is it 5 o’clock somewhere, it is also rosé season wherever you may be. Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie gives us some direction in transitioning from your favorite summer pinks to heartier styles in this end of summer “Don’t You Forget About Me” rosé recap. SEASIDE SIPPING Bandol is a small wine region located on the Mediterranean coast, long known for producing some of the most classic, show-stopping rosés from France. (Think if wine was made by the shores of Cisco Beach!)  BASTIDE DE LA CISELETTE BANDOL ROSÉ is...Read More >

Red, White & Booze

While Labor Day weekend may mark the end of summer for some, it is the beginning of a new drinking season for others.  Gone are the days of crisp, mineral driven wines that have your mouth sweating like a hot afternoon at the Nobadeer Beach.  Lighter style reds take a back seat to ones that have more depth and complexity like a Whalers football game.  Even rosé drinkers rejoice as they continue to discover the sea of well-made pink options as we fade into an Indian Summer. Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie offers a selection of home-grown, patriotic picks to celebrate with this weekend, including an unique spirit to toast into September. ROCKETS RED FLARE Labor Day is an annual American tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.  Cliff Lede has taken this one step further in his creation of FEL Wines. The letters in FEL represent Florence Elsie Lede, founder Cliff Lede’s...Read More >

The Spinners – Screwtop Sensations

August has arrived and with that is one of the most anticipated Nantucket events of the summer. Boston Pops on Nantucket has celebrated over two decades as the major fundraising event to support the general operations of Nantucket Cottage Hospital.  This year’s special musical guests features a Motown sensation, The Spinners.  While you are moving and grooving to the sounds of these legendary R&B recording artists, Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie offers a pairing of screw top wine selections for a handful of this group’s Grammy nominated hits. I’ll Be Around Dedicated to the relentless pursuit of wines with elegance, purity, and sophistication, Rickshaw Chardonnay is true to its varietal character, steers clear of any heavy handed tricks in the cellar, and over delivers in every possible way. They source their fruit from diverse appellations across California from sustainable vineyards, enabling them to choose and craft the highest quality wine possible. On the nose, you will find lovely peach and pear aromas followed...Read More >
