Enhancing Life | One Sip At A Time!

As we travel on this road called life, we would like to introduce you to our Cheers to Charities benefactor for the month of June, Palliative & Supportive Care on Nantucket (PASCON).  The mission of PASCON is a specialized health care program dedicated to providing excellent physical, psychological, social, and spiritual care for persons with life-threatening illness and their families. The PASCON Foundation is dedicated to funding all of PASCON’s programs and services so that they may be provided free to the community without insurance reimbursement and to educating the community and raising awareness about palliative and supportive care issues. Their motto of “Compassion, Support, Respect” is something that can be evidenced beyond just the staff, volunteers, and patients involved with their programs.  This can also be seen in the passion found in winemaking. The diversity of wines, from different regions and grape varieties, is what makes them all so special and unique.  Each wine has its own story and...Read More >

How to Benefit Others Through Cheers to Charities

Want a quick and easy way to feel good about yourself by donating to others? Interested in making a difference on our island, no matter what size it may be? Need an opportunity to show someone you care about them by supporting their cause? Never underestimate the positive effect you can make on the lives of others, no matter how small it may be.  You never know when that one moment of financial assistance, educational learning opportunity, or act of kindness can change the trajectory of someone’s life to be in a better place than they once were. The First Thursday Giving events at Épernay Wine & Spirits were designed to do just that, and more with the help of our powerful supporters.  Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie highlights a quick summary of our Cheers to Charities events for 2019 and the impact these organizations make on Nantucket. HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW? With the help of the community to sow,...Read More >

Sips with Nantucket Bay Scallops

October marks the official start of Nantucket Bay scallop season, yippee! This special delicacy unique to our island is available first to anyone who obtains a recreational shellfish license from the Town of Nantucket before the commercial harvest season begins November 1st.   Not only is it an adventure to put on your waders and spend some time on the water, it is also an experience to shuck all your little gems and easily use them to create a culinary masterpiece. Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie offers a selection of fabulous, distinctive white wines of distinction to pair with your favorite Nantucket Scallop recipes. COME ON IN, THE WATER IS FINE The Anjou region of the Loire Valley in northwestern France is better known for their red wines than the limited production of their stellar whites. Located in the heart of this region is the estate farmed by Jean-Bernard (4th generation vigneron) and Catherine Chauvin, along with their son Denis. Here they...Read More >

Literary Feast of Nantucket

The sun is finally brightly shining and you have your favorite beach blanket ready to go in your newly monogramed tote from Blue Beetle.  Your pile of recommended summer reads by local bookworm Tim Ehrenberg and your friends at Nantucket Bookworks is conveniently located tableside for easy access on your way out the door to spend a relaxing afternoon at Surfside Beach. Reading a book takes our mind on an adventure like none we could ever possibly have ourselves.  The words we read are the heart and soul of someone else, most notably the author.  In a sense, we get a taste of what the writer is trying to tell us and if the “meal” is good, we continue to read more.  The same can be said about enjoying a glass of wine and feasting on what the winemaker has prepared for us. In honor of the 8thannual Nantucket Book Festival, Advanced Sommelier Jenny Benzie offers the perfect pairing of...Read More >
