Seaside Sips for Summer

Only five Fridays left until Labor Day Weekend.  Makes you think about what remains on your Nantucket To-Do Summer Bucket List.  You mapped it out at the beginning of season, but your busy social schedule, kids at camp and weekly houseguests got the best of you and your precious time spent here on the island.   Time to regroup, reassess and refresh your priorities before summer ends.  What better way to do that than with a lovely glass of rosé in hand to toast the next adventures and amazing memories you will be creating by the waters of our fair isle. While spending the day on the sand has its glorious moments, there is something to be said about the calm and stillness of enjoying the water in Nantucket Harbor.  This extends well past where the Hy-Line Ferry and visiting boats dock close to town. A drive out to Monomoy, Polpis or the Wauwinet area will keep you on the...Read More >

Nantucket BYOB Picks + Pairings

While Nantucket has a handful of places for a quick grab and go coffee paired with a Morning Glory muffin, sometimes you are in need of a hearty breakfast. Whether it is to clear your head from the night before or get your read for the day in front of you, start off your day with a delicious breakfast from BLACK EYED SUSAN’S.   This small, elegant eatery is open bright and early at 7 am and serves until 1 pm. You can order your choice of egg scramble, omelette and Black Eyed Susan’s best. Don’t forget to share an order of their Pennsylvania Dutch Cakes for breakfast dessert! What makes it even more fun is that it is a Bring Your Own Bottle establishment. You are probably thinking that this would be amazing for dinner, but who doesn’t enjoy a mimosa with their brunch? Bring a bottle of PASQUA PROSECCO to mix with your orange juice there. Prosecco, being...Read More >

Local Libations Made Easy

Summertime is the perfect season to benefit from the bounty of the earth the far away isle of Nantucket has to offer. We have access to fresh eggs, succulent strawberries, delicious sweet corn and all the heirloom tomatoes you can eat, along with a plethora of fragrant, colorful flowers to adorn any Nantucket home. SUSTAINABLE NANTUCKET is a local organization that aims to cultivate a healthy Nantucket by building a more locally-based and self-reliant food system on-island, and build a healthy economy around this. On Saturday mornings in summer, you can visit their Farmer and Artisans Market downtown, which is designed to support and strengthen our traditional industry of agriculture. Vendors include growers, artisans, and prepared food purveyors, and are seasonal or year round residents of Nantucket, with all goods sold grown or produced on the island. What a great way to stock up on local herbs and produce to use in making some delicious seasonal summertime libations for your...Read More >

Knight LIGHTS of Nantucket

For anyone arriving on Nantucket via the ferry, one of most iconic and picturesque scenes you will see as you come into the Nantucket harbor is also one of the island’s most recognizable structures.   Nantucket is home to not one, but three lighthouses, and this is what you will see when first arriving to island on a boat. Lighthouses are an essential part of maritime navigation at sea or with inland waterways. For Nantucket, this means making your way through the Grey Lady fog and avoiding the dangerous shoals off the coast. The US Bureau of Lighthouses was created by Congress in 1789 but today lighthouses fall under the United States Coast Guard. Once widely used, the number of operational lighthouses that are monitored by actual personnel has declined due to the expense of maintenance and also the use of electronic navigational systems. While it is safe to say that getting to see all three of the Grey Lady’s lighthouses...Read More >
