Seafood, Sips + Sunshine

Summer on Nantucket is more than just going to one of the many beautiful, soft sandy beaches of the island.  It’s actually being on the water and feeling the energy that Mother Ocean has to offer. Whether you are surfing the waves at Cisco Beach, swiftly paddle boarding in the calmer waters of the harbor, or enjoying a personally guided fishing charter off-shore, it is always a pleasure to reap the rewards of your ocean experience with some edible nourishment from the waters and the perfect libation to pair with it. Nantucket is now home to a handful of locally grown oyster farms.  While these farms may be small in size, they are able to grow in distinctively different areas that show the diversity of our water culture’s influence. From Great Harbor Oysters, to RETSYO near the Wauwinet dock, you also have Pocomo Meadow and Fifth Bend in between. These tasty bivalves offer a certain salinity that is best matched with sparkling wine....Read More >

Knight LIGHTS of Nantucket

For anyone arriving on Nantucket via the ferry, one of most iconic and picturesque scenes you will see as you come into the Nantucket harbor is also one of the island’s most recognizable structures.   Nantucket is home to not one, but three lighthouses, and this is what you will see when first arriving to island on a boat. Lighthouses are an essential part of maritime navigation at sea or with inland waterways. For Nantucket, this means making your way through the Grey Lady fog and avoiding the dangerous shoals off the coast. The US Bureau of Lighthouses was created by Congress in 1789 but today lighthouses fall under the United States Coast Guard. Once widely used, the number of operational lighthouses that are monitored by actual personnel has declined due to the expense of maintenance and also the use of electronic navigational systems. While it is safe to say that getting to see all three of the Grey Lady’s lighthouses...Read More >

What To Pair with Your Nantucket Catch of the Day?

One of the many benefits of living on the pristine island of Nantucket is that you are completely surrounded by water. In every direction you turn, almost all roads lead to a serene sandy beach. Because of this, islanders have adapted to becoming resilient during the dreadful winter Nor’Easter storms, working to become as sustainable as possible to preserve the peace and tranquility of our island home, and being stewards of the ocean waters that surround us. There is a sense of peace and serenity of being on the water and that is an enormous draw not only for locals, but also for those who make their annual pilgrimage to the island. The ocean provides us with a bounty of nourishment to our souls and to our bellies. What better way to experience all that Mother Ocean has to offer than by experiencing the fun, excitement and delight of a day fishing charter off the coast of the Grey Lady....Read More >

Grower Champagnes: Who is Your Champagne Farmer?

The holiday season is here (hooray!) and that means a plethora of social gatherings, along with the obligatory gift giving. The challenge of this time of year is how to make holiday parties a little more festive (read: exciting and actually fun) and your presents unique (read: unforgettable).   No need to stress about any of this as adding a bottle of sparkling wine to the equation is always an excellent idea. However, let’s kick it up a notch from there. You buy your eggs from Boat Yard Farm, you get your carrots from Moors End Farm and you pick your own tomatoes at Bartlett Farm. Why not purchase, partake and give a little “Farmer Fizz” to showcase some quality producer grown and made Champagne along with supporting your local Champagne farmer? Known more commonly as Grower Champagne, these festive bottles of bubbly originate from the Champagne region of France as the name implies. What makes them stand out from mass...Read More >
